Newsletters are in the News page right now but I might move them to the forum and create a new forum header just for news.

We can add a facilities section but there is already a forum header for “Club Improvements and Workparty Planning”, which hasn’t been used. I can change that name or if you think we need two for different purposes, we can make another. It’s not hard to make more forum headers if we need more.

We added a function to add photos and other attachments to the posts and replies. Scroll down past the box where you type in the text for your post and you’ll see the word “Attachments:” and a button below that to “Choose File” to uplaod.

Developer addressed the above issues, except the NEW POST button, which they found a plugin and asked if it was okay before installing. I just told them it’s good and to install.

    testing file attachment

seems to work okay. i didn’t see the black bars after reply.

Thanks for the review Derek. I checked the forum settings and it was set to limit editing to 5 min after post. I changed that to edit indefinitely.

I had requested a plugin for adding images, and they came back w/ options, so I’m asking them to add this plugin, which will support multiple file attachments. I forwarded your other comments to developer:

I like this bbpress attachment plugin, since it does more than just images: https://wordpress.org/plugins/gd-bbpress-attachments/
    More error / comments:
Can we add bread crumb style links in the forum to go back a level or more?  See screenshot of an example enclosed.
Can we add a button at the top of each forum category to add a new post?  Currently need to scroll to the bottom to reply.
Black banner blocking bottom frame I reply to a post in the forum.  see screenshot attached.

We might want to limit the photo section to just Club related photos and then let people post these other things, like “cool guns” in the forum, but right now it’s not easy to post photos in the forum, which is an issue I’ve been meaning to address w/ the developer. So we might preface the image gallery with “Post your photos taken at the Club, and about the Club, here.” Otherwise it’s just going to be random photos of people’s cats and such.

So I’ll send the questions to the developer: Can we make sub groups in the image gallery, or maybe setup multiple galleries? Topics we need are Events, Matches, Workparty, General, Nature & Animal, Club improvements.

Second question: can we add an option for users to post photos in the forum easier than linking to an image from a third party web site?

We could do that but I think people will use the forum more often than a stand alone page. My experience with the existing site is that people don’t click through most of the pages browsing for new content because most page content changes infrequently. Thus, if we made a stand alone page for member services, my concern is people will look at it once, if at all, and then never return to it. Hence, I was trying to keep all the dynamic, self-post content in the forum. Given we have a relatively small user group, I don’t expect a flood of content even with the ability to self post things.

So, not sure what’s better here: stand alone page OR forum posts.

You don’t see the menus at the top with the black bar? The developer did also put menus at the bottom of the page, which that did seem strange to me but I just left them there. Can change the layout but it’s strange you don’t see the menu bar at the top. I did ask the developer to make the member’s section menu much more narrow (shorter in height) to avoid wasting space on pages we use more often.

That’s funny because I did try to initially select a color of the red/orange clays for trap. The issue I had though, was if the background color is too light or bright then it makes it difficult to read the white text describing the event. So I selected a color with a softer tone.

I spent some more time and tried out a few more colors and changed trap to more of a clay orange and made the workparty more like a caution tape yellow.

    Thanks Peter, I fixed “causal”.

On a side note, I used to belong to a Club that was rather prudish about people shooting Skeet. As a Member, when I inquired about participating in skeet the person responded by asking what kind of shotgun I owned and what experience did I have! I think I probably offended him by answering a terse, “a skeet gun, which I’ve used to shoot… skeet.” So I’ve always stressed here at WGC that anyone is welcome to shoot trap and join our matches, hence the casual terminology.

Also, I made the wording changes to the About page.

Hi Mark, I moved this post from the General Section to this Web Site section.

The photos on the public section are all relatively recent, but the home page photo could be updated now that the barrier is completed and the pistol bunker is finished.

The “image galley” in the member’s only section is where we can keep all photos, old and new, which I put all the photos from the old site in there. If people have other photos then I can add them as well. I can also setup certain (or all?) users with the ability to add photos to that gallery but right now it’s restricted to view only.

And yes, once the site is live we’ll send an email to all members announcing the new site and instructions on how to set password, which is the same language I sent to this test group:

The Club has a new web site. To login to the Members section you will need to create a password. Enter your email address, [email address], as your username on this page and you will receive an email with a link to set your password: https://westwoodgunclub.com/login/?action=lostpassword If you do not see the email in your inbox then check your Spam folder.

When in the members section the top left menu “WGC Members Section” takes you to the home page. Might change this to read “WGC Home Page”
